Officership / Senior WO Roles

Definition of Officership

Feb ’03 Officership Conf. Version

Essential to officership is a unique identity or self-concept of being a warrior, servant of the nation, member of the army profession, and leader of character.  Officers apply discretionary judgment and bear ultimate moral responsibility against a back drop of total accountability and unlimited liability.  This concept inspires and shapes the officer.
Updated Version
Officership is the practice of being a warrant/commissioned Army leader, accountable to the President of the United States for the Army and its mission. Officers swear an oath of loyalty and service to the Constitution. Officers apply discretionary judgment and bear ultimate moral responsibility for their decisions.  Their appointment/commission imposes total accountability and unlimited liability.  Essential to officership is a unique, shared self-concept consisting of four identities - warrior, servant of the nation, member of a profession, and leader of character.  Grounded in Army values, this shared self-concept inspires and shapes the officer and the Army Officer/  Warrant Officer Corps.

Definition of a Warrant Officer
